- On the 22nd of January a single bird was seen to pass low over Mount Kellett. Over the western slopes it was attacked and mobbed by four Kites as it crossed their nesting ground, and the five birds wheeled round one another for two or three minutes; the Eagle occasionally giving a series of seven or eight yelps, while the Kites were screaming with rage. The pursuit was abandoned as the Eagle passed over High West.
