Italiano: STATUA IBEJI - Figura femminile con abito di tessuto e cauri. Volto con elaborata acconciatura, grandi occhi con pupilla forata, naso di forma triangolare con ampie narici, bocca costituita da due piattelli sovrapposti; scarificazioni cheloidali sulle guance.

Le statuette ibeji rappresentano i gemelli. Presso gli Yoruba in epoca precoloniale la nascita dei gemelli era considerata une vento nefasto, un'intrusione dell'animalità nella sfera della riproduzione umana. Per questo i gemelli venivano abbandonati riconsegnadoli alla sfera della boscaglia da cui si riteneva provenissero. In tempi più recenti il significato si è capovolto facendone un segno benaugurante a dando vita a un culto dei gemelli.In caso di morte di uno o di entrambi i gemelli la madre fa scolpire queste statuette di cui si prende cura, lavandole, vestendole e nutrendole, perché depositarie dello spirito dei bambini defunti. Alla sua morte verranno trasmesse a una delle figlie. I gemelli conservano comunque un lato oscuro: il culto che si rivolge loro serve a placarne lo spirito.

Per quanto si tratti di raffigurazioni di bambini, le statuine li rappresentano con tutti gli attributi sociale e sessuali (i seni) dell'età adulta.
