Description |
Nederlands: Vroeger stonden op elk Yoruba erf indigo verfpotten. Elk vrouw was zelf verantwoordelijk voor het kleuren van de kleding van het gehele gezin. Zowel oud, verschoten als nieuw katoen werd geverfd. De Yoruba haalden hun indigo uit de Lonchocarpus cyanescens, 'elu' genoemd en vermengden dit met Indigofera arrecta (Oei, 1985: 94). In 1958 kwam de synthetische indigo op de markt en vervingen de Yoruba de inlandse indigo voor zestig procent met de synthetische. Daarnaast verschoof het indigo verven meer en meer naar gecentraliseerde ververijen (S. Wijs 2009). |
