A letter colon, i.e. ⟨꞉⟩, made triangular to be more distinct from the punctuation colon.

Usage notes

The symbol may be doubled to indicate an extra-long segment: [aːː], [pːː] or (as a superscript) [qʰ𐞁𐞁].

The colon may carry diacritics, e.g. for tone in [sáː̀] (falling tone on a long vowel) or nasalization in [saː̃]. See length (phonetics).

A superscript colon is used for example in [kʰ𐞁], a [k] with longer aspiration than [pʰ] and [tʰ𐞂]. The diacritic may instead be doubled, i.e. [kʰʰ], but that allows only a two-way distinction.
