Etymology
[edit]Literally, “Even if a crane cries in a deep valley, its cry reaches the heavens”.
The Idiom is an allusion to a passage in the book of Classic Poetry (《詩經·小雅·鶴鳴》), as a calque of Literary Chinese 鶴鳴於九皋，聲聞於天 (hè míng yú jiǔ gāo, shēng wén yú tiān). [1][2]
