Ancient Greek
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- ἠρύγγη (ērúngē)
Etymology
[edit]The formation is similar to εἴλιγγος (eílingos) and πίσυγγος (písungos). According to Strömberg, it derives from ἔαρ (éar, “spring”). However, Beekes is sure of the Pre-Greek origin of the word. Compare also the synonymous Middle Armenian երնջնակ (ernǰnak).
