Etymology

Probably from Old Khmer ឯង (eṅa), ឯង៑ (eṅ, “self; oneself; own; personally”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ឯង (ʼaeng, “you; self, oneself; etc”). Doublet of เอง (eeng). Compare Proto-Vietic *ʔɛːŋ; Vietnamese anh (“you”).
