1. road (between towns or areas); thoroughfare
   • c. 1260, Saʿdī, “Ghazal 376”, in دیوان سعدی [The Divān of Saʿdī]‎^[1]:

     چو پای از جاده بیرون شد چه نفع از رفتن راهم
     چو کار از دست بیرون شد چه سود از دادن پندم

     čū pāy az jādda bērōn šud či naf' az raftan-i rāh-am
     čū kār az dast bērōn šud či sūd az dādan-i pand-am

     When the feet have left the thoroughfare, what point is there for me to go on the way?
