Etymology
[edit]Coined by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda in 1896 based on Ancient Greek τάξις (táxis) and Arabic طَقْس (ṭaqs) published in his daily newspaper, HaTzvi.

Usage notes
[edit]- Some use/prefer the spelling טֵכֶס (tekhes), which was common in Mishnaic Hebrew, but nowadays the Academy of the Hebrew Language recommends טֶקֶס (tekes),[1] and it is far more common.[2]
