[edit]From Proto-Nakh *pχā. Cognate with Ingush пхьан (pḥʳan, “hornbeam”). Associated with several weapon names, because they were made of hornbeam: Chechen пха (pxa, “arrow”), пха, пхьа (pxa, pḥʳa, “shield”), пхердукъ (pxerduqʼ, “spear”).
