Inherited from Proto-Slavic *vojьnьnъ. By surface analysis, вайна́ (vajná) +‎ -ны (-ny). Cognate with Polish wojenny, Russian вое́нный (vojénnyj) and Ukrainian воє́нний (vojénnyj).
