[edit]Etymology
[edit]Resembles λεπίς (lepís, “scale”) + *-ρᾱ (*-rā), but with unclear morphology. Perhaps both words are ultimately Pre-Greek; compare λεβηρῐ́ς (lebērís, “shed skin”), and see λέπω (lépō, “to peel”) for more.[1]
