Anatolian name, from Hittite 𒋫𒅈𒊭 (Ta-ar-ša), possibly from 𒋫𒅈𒆪 (Ta-ar-ku), a god. The name may have entered Greek through Akkadian 𒋫𒅈𒅆𒅆 (Ta-ar-ši-ši).
