[edit]Diacritical mark
[edit]◌̨
- ogonek, a common diacritic for nasalization
- (IPA, dated) Sometimes used to mark nasalization in order not to clutter tone marks placed above the vowel letter.
- (IPA, obsolete) graphic substitution for ⟨◌᪷⟩.
- (UPA, on a consonant letter) laminal articulation, e.g. ⟨s̨⟩ (IPA ◌̻).
- (UPA, on a vowel letter) a reduced vowel; equivalent to a turned letter.
Usage notes
[edit]Along with the cedilla ⟨◌̧⟩ and the overstruck tilde ⟨◌̴⟩, the ogonek is one of the few diacritics that graphically connects with a letter and yet is used productively in Unicode, rather than there being a separate Unicode character assigned to each combination of letter and diacritic.
